Private Investigator in Gainesville, FL

Most people who call an investigator have spent weeks deciding whether to. The question on your mind is not what we charge. It is whether anyone will ever know you called.

Under Florida law, a licensed investigator may not divulge investigative information about a client’s case. Confidentiality here is a statutory duty, not a promise on a website. We work quietly, document everything properly, and tell you what we can and cannot legally do before you commit to anything.

What Is a Private Investigator and What Do They Do in Florida?

A private investigator is a civilian licensed by the state to gather information and evidence on behalf of a paying client. Florida law defines the work quite specifically. Under section 493.6101 of the Florida Statutes, private investigation covers looking into crimes or wrongs done or threatened, the identity, habits, conduct, movements, whereabouts, associations, transactions, reputation or character of a person or group, the credibility of witnesses, the location or recovery of lost or stolen property, the causes of fires, losses, accidents or injuries, and securing evidence for use before a court or other tribunal.

Fast Florida Bonds runs a licensed investigation service alongside our bail bond work, which gives us a working knowledge of the courts, jails and records offices across Alachua, Duval and Putnam counties that most general agencies do not have. Our clients are attorneys, businesses, insurers and private individuals, and each gets the same approach: a defined scope and a written estimate before we start, so nobody is billed into an open-ended investigation; evidence gathered lawfully, because illegally obtained material is worse than no material at all; and total discretion, including about the fact that you contacted us.

Private Investigator

Our Services

We offer four services in total. Investigation clients usually need only the last one, but the others exist because the same families often need both sides of the business.

Federal Bail Bonds

Federal cases follow a different statute and a different timeline, with no bond schedule and a judge setting conditions at a detention hearing. Where investigation work connects to this is the detention hearing itself, because judges release people they can verify. Documented employment, a confirmed address and a vetted third-party custodian all carry weight, and that verification is investigative work rather than bonding work.

Private Investigation

Our licensed investigation service is the subject of this page and stands entirely on its own. It is available to attorneys, businesses, insurers and private individuals whether or not there is any bail matter involved, and most of our investigation clients have no connection to the bonding side at all. The four areas we handle are set out in detail below: surveillance, background and records research, locating people, and defense investigation support.

Benefits of Hiring a Licensed Investigator

  • Confidentiality is a legal duty. Section 493.6119 of the Florida Statutes prohibits a licensee from divulging investigative information about a client’s case, so your privacy is backed by law rather than by goodwill.
  • Evidence that survives scrutiny. Anything obtained by trespass, illegal recording or improper database access can be excluded and can create liability for you, so lawful method is not a technicality.
  • A licence you can verify. Unlicensed investigative work is a third degree felony in Florida, and an unlicensed operator’s findings are of little use to an attorney or an insurer.
  • Defined scope, written estimate. We agree the question and the budget before starting, so you are not funding an open-ended investigation with no defined end point.
  • Genuine local knowledge.Knowing the clerks, records offices, jails and court calendars in Alachua, Duval and Putnam saves days that an out-of-area agency would spend learning them.

Work Process

How We Work a Case

Confidential consultation

You tell us the situation and we define the exact question to be answered, then agree a scope and a written estimate.

Lawful fieldwork and documentation

We work the records, the databases and the field, documenting each step with dates, times and method so the evidence stands on its own.

Written report and testimony

You receive a written report with the evidence attached, ready for an attorney or insurer. If the matter reaches a hearing, we can testify to what we documented and how.

Surveillance and Activity Documentation in Gainesville

Surveillance is the documented observation of a person’s activity from lawful vantage points, producing dated and time-stamped photographs, video and a written log of what was seen. What happens in practice is patient and unglamorous. We agree the days and hours worth covering, because continuous observation is rarely affordable or necessary, then work from public streets, parking areas and other places where the subject has no reasonable expectation of privacy.

We do not enter private property, look through windows or place tracking devices on vehicles our client does not own, and the reason is practical as much as ethical: evidence obtained that way can be excluded and can put the client at legal risk. Typical reasons clients ask for this work include suspected workers compensation or disability fraud, child custody and time-sharing concerns, and confirming whether a person is living or working where they claim. Our report separates what was observed from what might be inferred, which is what makes it useful to an attorney rather than just reassuring to a client.

Background Checks and Public Records Research in Gainesville

A background investigation is the lawful assembly of what public and licensed records say about a person or a business, verified rather than simply copied from a database. What it covers depends on the purpose, and typically includes criminal and civil court filings, judgments and liens, property ownership, business registrations and officers, professional licences, bankruptcies and address history. What happens is that we pull from the primary sources rather than relying on a single aggregator report, because those reports routinely mix up people with similar names and are frequently out of date.

One point most agencies do not mention: if a background check is being used to make a hiring, promotion or tenancy decision, federal fair credit reporting rules apply and the report has to come through a consumer reporting agency with the specific disclosures and consents that law requires. A general investigative background report is not the same product and using one for an employment decision can create real exposure. We will tell you which one your situation actually needs before we start work.

Skip Tracing and Locating People Across North Central Florida

Skip tracing is the work of finding a person who cannot be reached at a known address, using licensed databases, public filings, utility and property records, employment traces and field verification. The last part matters more than people expect. A database hit is an address on a screen, not a confirmed location, so we verify on the ground before reporting that someone lives or works somewhere.

Our bail bond work gives this side of the business a practical edge, since locating people who do not want to be found is something we do routinely rather than occasionally. We also decline this work when the purpose appears to be reaching someone who has taken steps to stay away, including anyone protected by an injunction, and we will not explain our reasoning beyond saying no.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not from us. Section 493.6119 of the Florida Statutes prohibits a licensed investigator from divulging information obtained during an investigation to anyone other than the client or as the law requires, which makes confidentiality a licensing obligation rather than a courtesy. In practice we also keep our own footprint small: no contact with the subject unless you authorise it, no vehicles or clothing that identify us, and case records kept separately from every other part of the business. The one situation to understand up front is that if the matter goes to court, evidence becomes part of a case file and the other side will see it, which is a consequence of litigation rather than a breach of confidence.

Wondering Whether You Can Ask Without Committing to Anything?

You can. A first conversation costs nothing, stays confidential, and often ends with us telling you that your question can be answered without hiring anyone at all. If investigation is the right step, you will get a defined scope and a written estimate before any work begins.

About Fast Florida Bonds Investigations

Fast Florida Bonds runs a licensed private investigation service from Gainesville, covering Alachua, Duval and Putnam counties for attorneys, businesses, insurers and private clients. Our bonding background means we spend our working lives in the courts, jails and records offices that investigation work depends on. Call (352) 635-3633 for a confidential conversation with no obligation.

Areas We Are Serving

We take investigation work across three North Central and Northeast Florida counties, all handled from our Gainesville base. Local coverage genuinely matters in this business, because knowing the clerk’s office, the records systems and the geography of an area is the difference between a two-day job and a two-week one.

Some investigation work reaches beyond these counties, particularly records research and locating people, which are not limited by geography in the way surveillance is. If your matter sits partly outside this area, tell us and we will say plainly whether we can handle it or should refer it on.
